National Day Special...

HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!!!!

ok, fine... i know that i am abit late (now it is 12.37am on 10 August) but i was not free to blog about it yesterday...

after a whole day of preparations for the BB stall for the carnival (8 August), the NDP and POP parades and the final clearing up of the school, i finally left the school at about 11pm..

oh ya.. i was quite happy too 'coz i won a LUCKY DRAW PRIZE!!! 17th Prize!!! yay... i was so excited coz i never won that kind of prize before... haha... and i got a 'Design Factory' toolbox... cool right... but now i'm not sure what i will do with it... lol...

anyway... jieyi, jiahui and i left together with yanling and wilson as we went to have our supper at yishun while they went home... we went to macdonald's and i was really hungry and tired (and busy smsing...)

then jieyi's father came to bring her home... by then it was about 11.30pm already... i didn't have much energy left to go home and i had a lot of things to carry.. so jiahui suggested that i stay over at his place... i didn't mind as i was really tired and it would be fun...

so i quickly called home and then we set off to his house! we wanted to get back in time to do a countdown for National Day!! haha... however, we soon realised a problem... i only had extra shirt and shorts, but no underwear!!!

~censored~

so i had a nice warm shower... but by the time i got out, it was already National Day!!! we suddenly felt quite awake, so we watched X-Men (movie) until a few minutes past 2am... it was a really nice movie... then after that, we went to sleep....

the next morning, i got up at about 8.30am and then jiahui and i watched youtube videos until 11.30am... i wonder how we made the time pass so fast... we spent so much time laughing at madtv spoofs and being amazed at incredible magic tricks... it was cool...

then i quickly went home to put down all my stuff and i came back to j8 to meet the sec4 seniors for lunch at yoshinoya... after lunch, we went to buy some snacks for the BBQ and then we looked about for ms lim's birthday (10 Aug) present.. here is what we bought:

  1. a big pink box with pink pokka dots
  2. a pink squid plushie handphone holder
  3. a pink doughnut from 7-eleven
  4. a pink furry dice from mini toons
  5. a bouquet of 5 different shades of pink flowers

we bought 5 items for her to represent the 5th Student Council... haha...

then we went down via bus 13 to East Coast Park, Area C, BBQ Pit 7... lol.. then we started the BBQ fire... haha..

while waiting for the teachers to come, some of us went down to the beach and dunked jinshi into the sea 5 times!! haha.. that was fun...

the whole BBQ was a good time of jokes and fellowship... then i finally came home with jiang wei on a long and comfortable bus ride...

now i'm really tired, so i'm going to sleep now... Happy Birthday, Singapore!!! XD

Ms Chong's MOO day....

hey!!!

haha... today was MS. JOYCE CHONG'S MOO DAY!!!!

lol. it was her birthday and it was really special for her...

her NPCC cadets gave her a custom made bear for her and the whole unit made a circle around her and sung her 'happy birthday...' it was really sweet..

haha.. but i still think the student council was more 'thoughtful'...

lol.. first, we brought ms chong to the council room.. then we presented her the senior council's postcard (which was white and covered in brown spots...hmm...) and then the exco's card...

then we presented to her a huge 'pasar malam' bag... (she is said to be able to fit into it.. haha..) anyway, we began to take out the items in the bag and introduced them to her one by one... each had its special meaning :)

let me give a rough flowchart to give you an idea of our theme:
leather (smell) --> cow --> milk --> calcium --> strong bones --> tall-ness!!!

haha... here are a list of items that we got for her...

  • Cheezels [ingredients: 'milk and cheese solids (from cow)'... haha.. that's what it says..]
  • 18 cups of cheese cake [stay forever '18'...]
  • Dove Amicelli MILK chocolate...
  • Measuring Tape [self-awareness...]
  • Skipping Rope with counter [healthy growth programme..]
  • HL Fresh MILK [directions: to keep milk fresh, keep it in the cow!!]
  • 1 box of cereals [to go with the MILK...]
  • 1 bottle of COWca-COWla (coca-cola)... [ingredients: strawberries, yoghurt, fish & all other healthy food]
  • 1 size XXS white t-shirt with brown spots... and abit of shoe polish smell (that is supposed to smell like leather... hmm...) [front: CPL JOYCE; back: I AM TALL]

haha... today was fun... i enjoyed LICK cell today as well...

oh ya!!! its tomorrow!!! see you guys at SWENSEN's!!!!!

investiture is over!!

i have officially stepped down from my role as the president on friday!!

i was really impressed at how grand the occasion was... so glad to see cherlene and the other student council alumni coming back to support us!! the student guests were also impressed with the formality and 'class' of the event!!

haha... anyway, i will have to prepare for the EXCO handover meeting soon... but for now, i would like to blog about my handover speech in case my message was not clear during my speech!! haha... here it is:

"Good Afternoon, Elder Alvin Ooi; Mdm. Lee; teachers; fellow councillors and distinguished guests. Once again, welcome to our 6th Student Council Investiture! It is indeed an honour for me to stand here to represent the leadership of the 5th Student Council to give you my handover speech.

After a term as the president, it is really fulfilling to step down knowing that the Student Council is in good hands! With all the effort put in to mentor the next batch of councillors, it is encouraging to see them taking over the roles and responsibilities of the student leadership in our school with much eagerness to learn! The councillors have since created strong bonds with each other, showing care and concern when one of their own is in need of help and guidance!

The Student Council has grown much in the past year, both in strength and in unity. But I would like to remind the student councillors how they should act. The theme for this year’s investiture is “SOAR”, Serve, Obey, Aim and Rise.

First, they have to serve! Serve to lead, lead to serve. This is an important principle and we need to understand that we exist to serve the school.

Secondly, they have to obey God’s commands to live life the right way. God’s Word is always a reliable support to fall back on when in doubt.

Next, they have to aim, or set goals. Councillors, why do you think you are here today to be invested as student councillors? What do you want to achieve in your term of service?

Lastly, when they are successful in the previous steps, they can all rise together as one. To rise is very different from just achieving the best. When you rise, it is a very slow and steady process, which allows you to think about your next step, and to evaluate how you can make it better. We don’t want to go up too quickly and end up falling back to the ground!

I believe that every student councillor is not here by accident. I believe that God has planned for all of us to work together towards His purpose. We can rely on Him to create in us, servant leaders who possess depth and character.

Like what I did last year before I finished my speech, I would like to leave all of you with 2 verses from the Bible. It is taken from Obadiah 1:3-4. You can remember it by the date of today’s investiture.

13 July: Obadiah 1, 3 then you add the 2 verse numbers together to get 7, which is July.

3 The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks [a]
and make your home on the heights,
you who say to yourself,
'Who can bring me down to the ground?'

4 Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,"
declares the LORD.

THANK YOU & GOD BLESS!!"

6th EXCO- revealed!!

wah.....

so tiring... i just came home from the 1st investiture rehearsal and had my dinner...

today was a really exhausting day... i actually paid attention in class!!! it was really difficult to keep up with it!!! i know that i will be very busy after school with activities, so i decided that i had to do my studying during curriculum time...

the last 2 periods today was A MATHS with Ms. Tang... and it ended longer than usual... we were to complete 'some' exercises before we could go off!! i was having such a pressurising time and i was supposed to meet keqin immediately after school to go and cut my hair... but i was stuck in the classroom doing really simple, but tedious sums that took a really long time to complete!!

then i went for PD for a while (to see a disappointing turn-out...) but soon i had to go off to settle the 6th EXCO list in the council room... it was so tiring just thinking about choosing the right people... after that, we had the investiture rehearsal that was quite messy... the committee still was not very organised in running the rehearsal... it was not well thought-out beforehand...

then anadee and i had a discussion with jonathan until quite late... then i was asked to reveal the 6th EXCO list to the council!! i was so nervous that my hands were shaking!! i had to change to use my left hand to hold the paper with the results as it was vibrating so badly that i could not read it... haha...

but when i finally released the names, i felt a sense of relief- but i left everyone in an 'awkward silence' as i would say that this EXCO is really unexpected... but i'm glad that the decision was finally made after weeks of contemplating...

i'm really praying for the 6th EXCO that they will be able to takeover the leadership smoothly after the investiture... i believe that they can do it!! AMEN!!

HONOURS NIGHT!!

its 11.27am now...

wow... i just woke up...
i reached home at midnight...
so tired... haha...
but it has been a good day...

yesterday morning, jiang wei came over to my house at 9.30am to leave his full-u and stuff before we went off together to visit jun ning...

at KK, jun ning was looking much better.. they had already removed the tube from his stomach through his nose... the tube for his drip was moved to his left hand from the right as the needle had already been in for 3 days... he told us that he could be discharged on monday after 5 days of anti-biotics.... yea..

i was glad that he had made new friends with the nursing students from ngee ann poly... haha... oh ya... jun ning had not used the pacifier that we got for him.. haha.. so we made him suck the pacifier while jiang wei filmed it... lol. then jun ning wanted to go to the toilet, so he pressed the button to call for the nurse who helped him bring his drip to the toilet... meanwhile, jiang wei watched tv at one of the activity corners while i played with a toy that requires skill to move beads across coloured wires that were twisted all over... i found it so much fun, but jiang wei said that i had a 'deprived childhood'... lol.

anyway, jun ning's classmates came soon after that and we showed them the video that we filmed.. haha.. it was really funny.. they also brought him a banner that they made... it was really long and it said 'Get well soon, Jun Ning!" it was really nice! they asked me to help them to hang up the banner high up on the wall of his bed (i guess it was coz i am tall :) haha..

but then i got an sms from ms lim that i had to be in school by 1pm.. so i quickly left with jiang wei to have lunch at KFC in Novena Square.. then we rushed back home to get our stuff before heading to school.. then while i was having my meeting, jiang wei helped me to polish my equipment! thx man! :)

then at 2pm, the councillors started to gather and we all went to prepare the hall for the event... so everyone was busy preparing, we got dressed into full-u at 3.30pm, the UGs came at abt 4pm, had an early dinner at 5pm... then the welcome party consisting of alistair, jin shi, wenyan, yinxiu and myself went to stand-by at the foyer at 5.30pm... then the long wait began...

we waited anxiously until about 7pm before the Guest-of-Honour finally came... it was a really grand affair! jiang wei and phillip did a great job with the bagpipes, giving her a grand entrance all the way up to the hall... it was a great experience being a part of it...

after ushering her up, we went back to our seats to join in for the event... after the worship, speeches and presentations... it was finally the prize presentation ceremony.. it was a really long wait as i was one of the last few ppl to get my award.. but it was really exciting for everyone as we cheered for each other when we went up... when it was finally my turn to go up... i was so nervous that i just went up to the person presenting the award, shook her hand then took the plaque without even waiting for a photo! lol. i feel so weird now, coz i was really nervous then that i could not wait to get off the stage.. haha..

after it was finally over, i rushed down back to my table and left my award there.. then i quickly rushed down to the council room to get changed into my blazer... everything was happening so fast... after i got changed, i realised that my hair was in a huge mess! i was so worried that i quickly got wax then put it on my hair! but i didn't know how to style it! i don't normally 'style' my hair! lol.. so i quickly rushed out of the toilet to see who could help me! then i saw alistair in the council room and asked him to help me with my hair... lol. after that, i quickly rushed up as i was supposed to serve at the VIPs' table for dinner and i did not want to miss it... but when i got up, my councillors were shocked at my hair! lol. then janelle used her hand and ruffled my hair! iwas so surprised! she took me out of the hall again and helped me to style my hair! haha.. it was so weird...

when my makeover was finally over, i made it in time for the school song, after which, the dinner reception.. it was fun serving food and drinks to the VIPs as i had never done it before... lol.. during dinner, i was so happy that they played my video tribute to the 5th Student Council! haha.. my efforts had paid off!!

then the photo-taking began! i took photos with those 4H ppl who were there, with jiahui & greg & yc, (lol.. photo was too bright!) with greg, his mum and my mum! lol.. so all happened to fast!! finally it was time to send the GOH and VIPs off... it was encouraging to hear compliments about our councillors from them... i also think that the UGs on duty did a GREAT JOB!! i'm so proud of them!! it must have been really hard on them!!

then it was feasting time!! as there were still lots of food and drinks left in the hall, the councillors, backstage crew and UGs were allowed to come up to eat the food! haha.. it was really rewarding for them!! then it was more photo-taking for us councillors at the stage!! haha... after having so much fun, the job still had to be done, so we all helped out to clear up the hall...

after debriefs and all, everyone finally was dismissed to go home and have a good rest!! i really think that this experience will be remembered fondly by many ppl... there are more memories to be captured like for the upcoming investiture... haha..

to end off, THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR MAKING THIS THANKSGIVING & HONOURS NIGHT SUCH A SUCCESSFUL ONE!!!!

(anyway, its 1.45pm now... haha...)

Good 'busy' Friday...

wow...

today was a really busy day... had the second and last day of "Celebrate Life!" Seminar in the morning... i attended a talk on 'Mass Communication" by Ngee Ann Poly, and 'Business Administration' by Nanyang Poly... but both polys ended up talking about their facilities and other courses in the school. lol.

after that, during assembly periods, there was a youth forum on the movie "Freedom Writers" that the whole school went down to watch... ms tang asked germaine and myself to carry out the forum just 1 hour before it!! lol. we were so unprepared that ms chionh ended up running the whole thing.. haha. it was very interesting...

after school, it got really busy... the sec1-3 BB boys gathered to meet mr teo about the milk run on sunday... i was disappointed that most of the sec1s did not stay back and just walked off... anyway, i had a quick lunch with greg after that and went up to the hall for the honours night rehearsal... it got really messy as everyone was all around and i was running around the place.. the UGs had to plan for the traffic control, i had to guide my councillors who would be doing the ushering in the hall and i had to prepare myself to collect my award...

when all that was finally done, i went down to find that pd had not started at all as they were not ready- but playing soccer... hmm.... anyway, we finally started at about 4.15pm... we trained until about 6pm and sent the boys off to go home and rest... i waited for johnson to finish planning the KAH and other stuff for the NDP before going home with him and huda...

yea. overall, it had been a really busy day... as usual... haix...

PD is also getting more active soon... which is a great thing for the boys.. haha.. but i hope that i can have enough of my own time to study... besides the performance for the MILK run on 1st July, we have also just accepted the performance for the "Hillary Challenge" closing ceremony organised by the MOE CCAB which will be held on 15 July... we might also be asked to perform for the BB Cares closing ceremony that should be around that time... another possible performance could be on the teachers day celebrations in september... so the PD schedule is definitely going to be filled up very soon... yup...

thank God for all these, but i'm still praying that i will know how to prioritise...

study now?

i have no idea what i'm doing!!

i should STOP...

EXCO lunch gathering!!

wow...

today was quite fun... the 5th EXCO went out together to have a lunch gathering...
we settled at New York New York at City Hall!!! we ate a really fulfilling lunch (that cost us $127) and had a nice time of fellowship!!!

during lunch, we unexpectedly saw joel chia from a distance! we realised that he was with xiao min, bryan and jason... haha. they were having lunch too! - but it was at Macdonald's... haha... i think they must have been quite jealous... lol...

anw, after lunch, we went to walk around and unexpectedly ended up at the esplanade!!! we began to admire and appreciate all the artworks there... when the rest walked up the stairs, i thought i would try taking the lift up... but when the lift didn't move, i started panicking and pressing the buttons until it finally moved up to the 2nd floor! gave me such a scare... haha... next time i will just take the stairs...

then we went up to the roof terrace (or terrence, as we called it..) and took lots of group photos! we even asked a foreigner to help us take a photo of our butts!! lol. we also found coloured rocks and drew stuff on the tiles!!! took photos of that too!!

haha.. after that, we went back to Macdonald's at Marina Square to cool off with ice-cream! it was really hot up there at 'terrence'... then janelle was talking about her nalgene when i suddenly thought of the word, "janalgene"... interesting hor... haha... then Alistair, Saman & Jin Shi left, while the rest of us went with janelle to buy kim chi for her mum.. yup.. then after that we walked around Marina Square, then to Suntec, and finally ended up in Carrefour looking for expiry dates of our birthdays.... haha... wonder who's bright idea that was.... lol...

haha... in any case, i think that today's outing was a really meaningful one... we should do this more often! right guys? haha....

for now, its back to studying for the big 'O's....
