PORTFOLIO.....

hey... its been quite tiring the past few days...
i was sick, but i returned to school after 2 days of MC...
however, i have not fully recovered yet...

i have been busy compiling my portfolio recently...
i'm preparing for my Direct Polytechnic Admission (DPA)...
i applied for Mass Communication at Ngee Ann Polytechnic...
although they have not called me up for an interview yet, but i have started preparing my portfolio so that i will be prepared for it...

i am really passionate about studying the course of my interest... however, my studies at the moment are not really good enough for me to do so.. so i'm am just praying that i will be able to get into Ngee Ann Poly via DPA so that my dream can come true...

but, if i don't get in, i believe that God has other plans for me...

for now, i will definitely put in more effort into my studies so that i can have a higher chance of studying the course of my choice....

i'm SiCK...

wah.... i'm SiCk....

today is the first time in my PHS school days that i left school early coz i was not feelin well...

it was during maths lesson when i started feeling very dizzy and could not focus...
i told zheng jie and he suggested that i should go home... so he brought me to find ms jasmiyanti... i called daddy and told him that i wanted to go home... i asked if he could pick me up from school but he said that he was at jurong... he told ms jasmiyanti that i was strong and could take a cab home myself...

so i took the leave form and zheng jie sent me off to take a cab from school... he flagged down a cab for me and i got home at about 11am...

i was feeling so hungry.. so i ate some noodles that my mum prepared and went to sleep at about 12nn... i woke up at about 3pm and ate some fish porridge that mum made... then she took me to the doctor at about 4pm.. at the same time, we took my height and weight...

my height was 176cm and my weight was 54.3kg... so my BMI was 17.5...

the doctor prescribed me some medication.... i had ~BRONCHITIS~
  • LITHROMAX (2 tablets every morning)
  • BEN/MUC (10ml for 3 times per day)
  • SEMPREX (1 tablet for 2 times per day)
  • SINGULAIR (1 tablet at bedtime)

i also have an MC for today until tomorrow... haix.. that means that i will be missing lessons... but i have asked jinshi to help me to take notes and zhengjie to help me collect my homework... i'm planning to do today's homework tomorrow... for now, i guess i shall go and rest...

Ms Chong's MOO day....

hey!!!

haha... today was MS. JOYCE CHONG'S MOO DAY!!!!

lol. it was her birthday and it was really special for her...

her NPCC cadets gave her a custom made bear for her and the whole unit made a circle around her and sung her 'happy birthday...' it was really sweet..

haha.. but i still think the student council was more 'thoughtful'...

lol.. first, we brought ms chong to the council room.. then we presented her the senior council's postcard (which was white and covered in brown spots...hmm...) and then the exco's card...

then we presented to her a huge 'pasar malam' bag... (she is said to be able to fit into it.. haha..) anyway, we began to take out the items in the bag and introduced them to her one by one... each had its special meaning :)

let me give a rough flowchart to give you an idea of our theme:
leather (smell) --> cow --> milk --> calcium --> strong bones --> tall-ness!!!

haha... here are a list of items that we got for her...

  • Cheezels [ingredients: 'milk and cheese solids (from cow)'... haha.. that's what it says..]
  • 18 cups of cheese cake [stay forever '18'...]
  • Dove Amicelli MILK chocolate...
  • Measuring Tape [self-awareness...]
  • Skipping Rope with counter [healthy growth programme..]
  • HL Fresh MILK [directions: to keep milk fresh, keep it in the cow!!]
  • 1 box of cereals [to go with the MILK...]
  • 1 bottle of COWca-COWla (coca-cola)... [ingredients: strawberries, yoghurt, fish & all other healthy food]
  • 1 size XXS white t-shirt with brown spots... and abit of shoe polish smell (that is supposed to smell like leather... hmm...) [front: CPL JOYCE; back: I AM TALL]

haha... today was fun... i enjoyed LICK cell today as well...

investiture is over!!

i have officially stepped down from my role as the president on friday!!

i was really impressed at how grand the occasion was... so glad to see cherlene and the other student council alumni coming back to support us!! the student guests were also impressed with the formality and 'class' of the event!!

haha... anyway, i will have to prepare for the EXCO handover meeting soon... but for now, i would like to blog about my handover speech in case my message was not clear during my speech!! haha... here it is:

"Good Afternoon, Elder Alvin Ooi; Mdm. Lee; teachers; fellow councillors and distinguished guests. Once again, welcome to our 6th Student Council Investiture! It is indeed an honour for me to stand here to represent the leadership of the 5th Student Council to give you my handover speech.

After a term as the president, it is really fulfilling to step down knowing that the Student Council is in good hands! With all the effort put in to mentor the next batch of councillors, it is encouraging to see them taking over the roles and responsibilities of the student leadership in our school with much eagerness to learn! The councillors have since created strong bonds with each other, showing care and concern when one of their own is in need of help and guidance!

The Student Council has grown much in the past year, both in strength and in unity. But I would like to remind the student councillors how they should act. The theme for this year’s investiture is “SOAR”, Serve, Obey, Aim and Rise.

First, they have to serve! Serve to lead, lead to serve. This is an important principle and we need to understand that we exist to serve the school.

Secondly, they have to obey God’s commands to live life the right way. God’s Word is always a reliable support to fall back on when in doubt.

Next, they have to aim, or set goals. Councillors, why do you think you are here today to be invested as student councillors? What do you want to achieve in your term of service?

Lastly, when they are successful in the previous steps, they can all rise together as one. To rise is very different from just achieving the best. When you rise, it is a very slow and steady process, which allows you to think about your next step, and to evaluate how you can make it better. We don’t want to go up too quickly and end up falling back to the ground!

I believe that every student councillor is not here by accident. I believe that God has planned for all of us to work together towards His purpose. We can rely on Him to create in us, servant leaders who possess depth and character.

Like what I did last year before I finished my speech, I would like to leave all of you with 2 verses from the Bible. It is taken from Obadiah 1:3-4. You can remember it by the date of today’s investiture.

13 July: Obadiah 1, 3 then you add the 2 verse numbers together to get 7, which is July.

3 The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks [a]
and make your home on the heights,
you who say to yourself,
'Who can bring me down to the ground?'

4 Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,"
declares the LORD.

THANK YOU & GOD BLESS!!"

6th EXCO- revealed!!

wah.....

so tiring... i just came home from the 1st investiture rehearsal and had my dinner...

today was a really exhausting day... i actually paid attention in class!!! it was really difficult to keep up with it!!! i know that i will be very busy after school with activities, so i decided that i had to do my studying during curriculum time...

the last 2 periods today was A MATHS with Ms. Tang... and it ended longer than usual... we were to complete 'some' exercises before we could go off!! i was having such a pressurising time and i was supposed to meet keqin immediately after school to go and cut my hair... but i was stuck in the classroom doing really simple, but tedious sums that took a really long time to complete!!

then i went for PD for a while (to see a disappointing turn-out...) but soon i had to go off to settle the 6th EXCO list in the council room... it was so tiring just thinking about choosing the right people... after that, we had the investiture rehearsal that was quite messy... the committee still was not very organised in running the rehearsal... it was not well thought-out beforehand...

then anadee and i had a discussion with jonathan until quite late... then i was asked to reveal the 6th EXCO list to the council!! i was so nervous that my hands were shaking!! i had to change to use my left hand to hold the paper with the results as it was vibrating so badly that i could not read it... haha...

but when i finally released the names, i felt a sense of relief- but i left everyone in an 'awkward silence' as i would say that this EXCO is really unexpected... but i'm glad that the decision was finally made after weeks of contemplating...

i'm really praying for the 6th EXCO that they will be able to takeover the leadership smoothly after the investiture... i believe that they can do it!! AMEN!!

Jun Ning has been discharged!!!

YEAH!!!

JUN NING HAS BEEN DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL!!!

haha... but he will be on MC until 13 July... he still needs to rest...

after church today, i went to Novena to meet greg, yc, steph and jiang wei to visit him at KK... however, before we left the MRT station, i gave Jun Ning a call and he told me that he had already been discharged and was having lunch with his family at Kopitiam in Novena Square!

lol.. it was a good thing that we had not left yet!! haha.. so we rushed up to look for him there!! and he was looking so much better in his own clothes (not in hospital clothes from a womens' and CHILDRENS' hospital.. haha..) ya, so anyway, he was holding on to a gigantic tigger balloon that sandra gave him... haha...

i'm really happy that he is finally out of hospital! i really pray that he will have a good rest so that he can join us back in school!!

i can't wait!!! thank God for his quick recovery!!!

HONOURS NIGHT!!

its 11.27am now...

wow... i just woke up...
i reached home at midnight...
so tired... haha...
but it has been a good day...

yesterday morning, jiang wei came over to my house at 9.30am to leave his full-u and stuff before we went off together to visit jun ning...

at KK, jun ning was looking much better.. they had already removed the tube from his stomach through his nose... the tube for his drip was moved to his left hand from the right as the needle had already been in for 3 days... he told us that he could be discharged on monday after 5 days of anti-biotics.... yea..

i was glad that he had made new friends with the nursing students from ngee ann poly... haha... oh ya... jun ning had not used the pacifier that we got for him.. haha.. so we made him suck the pacifier while jiang wei filmed it... lol. then jun ning wanted to go to the toilet, so he pressed the button to call for the nurse who helped him bring his drip to the toilet... meanwhile, jiang wei watched tv at one of the activity corners while i played with a toy that requires skill to move beads across coloured wires that were twisted all over... i found it so much fun, but jiang wei said that i had a 'deprived childhood'... lol.

anyway, jun ning's classmates came soon after that and we showed them the video that we filmed.. haha.. it was really funny.. they also brought him a banner that they made... it was really long and it said 'Get well soon, Jun Ning!" it was really nice! they asked me to help them to hang up the banner high up on the wall of his bed (i guess it was coz i am tall :) haha..

but then i got an sms from ms lim that i had to be in school by 1pm.. so i quickly left with jiang wei to have lunch at KFC in Novena Square.. then we rushed back home to get our stuff before heading to school.. then while i was having my meeting, jiang wei helped me to polish my equipment! thx man! :)

then at 2pm, the councillors started to gather and we all went to prepare the hall for the event... so everyone was busy preparing, we got dressed into full-u at 3.30pm, the UGs came at abt 4pm, had an early dinner at 5pm... then the welcome party consisting of alistair, jin shi, wenyan, yinxiu and myself went to stand-by at the foyer at 5.30pm... then the long wait began...

we waited anxiously until about 7pm before the Guest-of-Honour finally came... it was a really grand affair! jiang wei and phillip did a great job with the bagpipes, giving her a grand entrance all the way up to the hall... it was a great experience being a part of it...

after ushering her up, we went back to our seats to join in for the event... after the worship, speeches and presentations... it was finally the prize presentation ceremony.. it was a really long wait as i was one of the last few ppl to get my award.. but it was really exciting for everyone as we cheered for each other when we went up... when it was finally my turn to go up... i was so nervous that i just went up to the person presenting the award, shook her hand then took the plaque without even waiting for a photo! lol. i feel so weird now, coz i was really nervous then that i could not wait to get off the stage.. haha..

after it was finally over, i rushed down back to my table and left my award there.. then i quickly rushed down to the council room to get changed into my blazer... everything was happening so fast... after i got changed, i realised that my hair was in a huge mess! i was so worried that i quickly got wax then put it on my hair! but i didn't know how to style it! i don't normally 'style' my hair! lol.. so i quickly rushed out of the toilet to see who could help me! then i saw alistair in the council room and asked him to help me with my hair... lol. after that, i quickly rushed up as i was supposed to serve at the VIPs' table for dinner and i did not want to miss it... but when i got up, my councillors were shocked at my hair! lol. then janelle used her hand and ruffled my hair! iwas so surprised! she took me out of the hall again and helped me to style my hair! haha.. it was so weird...

when my makeover was finally over, i made it in time for the school song, after which, the dinner reception.. it was fun serving food and drinks to the VIPs as i had never done it before... lol.. during dinner, i was so happy that they played my video tribute to the 5th Student Council! haha.. my efforts had paid off!!

then the photo-taking began! i took photos with those 4H ppl who were there, with jiahui & greg & yc, (lol.. photo was too bright!) with greg, his mum and my mum! lol.. so all happened to fast!! finally it was time to send the GOH and VIPs off... it was encouraging to hear compliments about our councillors from them... i also think that the UGs on duty did a GREAT JOB!! i'm so proud of them!! it must have been really hard on them!!

then it was feasting time!! as there were still lots of food and drinks left in the hall, the councillors, backstage crew and UGs were allowed to come up to eat the food! haha.. it was really rewarding for them!! then it was more photo-taking for us councillors at the stage!! haha... after having so much fun, the job still had to be done, so we all helped out to clear up the hall...

after debriefs and all, everyone finally was dismissed to go home and have a good rest!! i really think that this experience will be remembered fondly by many ppl... there are more memories to be captured like for the upcoming investiture... haha..

to end off, THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR MAKING THIS THANKSGIVING & HONOURS NIGHT SUCH A SUCCESSFUL ONE!!!!

(anyway, its 1.45pm now... haha...)

KK Hospital Visit...

Jun Ning has Appendicitis...

he had an operation this morning at about 4am to remove his appendix..

so after school today, hong zhen, jieyi, stephanie, jiahui, keqin, jiang wei, gregory, yong chun, zheng jie, heng yong and i went down to KK hospital, Ward 55, Bed 24 to visit him... i had never been to a hospital for quite a while... so it was really new for me...

we bought him a "Men's Health" Magazine & a pacifier for him to pass the time... i wonder what he's gonna do with those things.. haha.. anyway, it was really painful to see him in the ward... he was attached with many tubes around his body... as if he was some electrical appliance... haix... i still feel so guilty that i even suggested to have lunch when he complained of stomach pains on Sunday (thinking that it was gastric)... i think i made it worse...

anyway, we went for lunch when the nurses said that they had to give Jun Ning medication and closed up the curtain... heng yong came later, so i went up with him to visit Jun Ning... then he showed us his scars from the operation which was even more painful and guilt-evoking... haix... Jun Ning also told us how the nurses gave him the medication... they put the tablet up his-

i think you wouldn't want to know the rest... it gave me and heng yong the chills...

anyway, i will continue to pray for Jun Ning to have a speedy recovery... and i shall go for the Honours Night rehearsal tmr...

YOUTH Sunday + MILK run

hey...

YOUTH SUNDAY WAS GREAT!!!

i had so much fun... (almost) everything was run by us, youths!! the band, ushers, set-up crew, speaker... i was an usher and i wore an orange "HUG ME" T-shirt outside my church auditorium to welcome ppl to church! lol.

Sunday church service was so different! there was even a space in front of the stage for people to sit on the floor! there was ice-breaker, dancing and a presentation of videos about the youth cells and the recent @lien Invasion Youth Camp at Batam!

unfortunately, i had to leave early and bring along the video camera (my sister was filming the event with it) and i rushed down to school from Orchard... i had no time to change so i wore the "HUG ME" T-shirt all the way down to Yio Chu Kang in the MRT... i think i didn't receive any weird stares... i think...

yea. so anyway, i made to school on time and we set off in 2 buses... when we finally arrived, i realised that we had stopped opposite Great World City, which was just beside my church... i wasted my time rushing down to school and ended up coming back to the same place! lol. but it was fun.

when we got to the ZOUK carpark for the MILK run, it was so crowded and noisy!! i had never seen the place before although my church was so nearby!! there were so many people!! we also met alistair, anadee, jinshi, jonathan and stephanie... we waited for the bagpipe band and pd to perform as we watched the various categories of races being flagged off! the community race had over 8,000 participants! it was really massive... 10mins after the flag off, more than half of the participants had not even reached the starting line!!!

the performance finally commenced at about 4.30pm... i will post the videos here soon... i think it should be quite stable.. i used jinshi's shoulder as a 'tripod stand' to support my video camera... haha...

anyway, today clement, gregory and jiang wei came over to my house to 'study' after we had lunch at food junction in j8... haha.. it was fun..

hmm... but on a more serious note... i found out that Jun Ning is in hospital... pls pray for him everyone! i know he will get better...
